Ryan’s music focuses on beauty, color, intimacy and energy, and seeks to find a balance between elegant structure and form, with spontaneity and openness. A mix of original songs, unique covers and instrumental guitar music, Ryan aims to communicate emotion and draw the listeners attention with sounds both familiar and fresh.

Ryan Vanderhoof is a musician, composer and teacher in Ithaca, NY. He is a 2001 graduate of Ithaca College School of Music in Classical Guitar Performance. From 2003-2007 he was a member of NYC band Akron/Family with whom he wrote five albums of original music for indie label Young God Records and toured internationally from Moscow to The Dave Letterman Show. His compositions with Akron/Family have been featured in film and TV, notably 'The World's Greatest Dad' featuring the late Robin Williams and directed by Bobcat Goldwaith,  the UK prime-time television show 'Skins', and as part of the 2006 Hal Willner production of sailor and sea-shanty songs 'Rogues Gallery' featuring other artists such as Lou Reed, Bill Frissel, Sting and Bono. 

He has self-released two EP’s, Seahorse Memoirs, 2014, and My Heart Is In The Highlands, 2016, which can be heard here. He currently writes for and plays in instrumental group The Long Now Trio.
